Prof. Guijarro had the privilege to be part of the “International Young Scientist Salon on Future Technologies for Carbon Neutrality” that took place in Nankai University, China, an exciting event that gathered experts from various disciplines with the same goal, to accelerate the decarbonization of the industry.
It is very important to raise awareness on the importance of accelerating the energy transition and inspire the younger generation of researchers to join this endeavor. An event, such as the “International Young Scientist Salon on Future Technologies for Carbon Neutrality” aims precisely at that. Indeed, this event was broadcasted online reaching thousands of attendees! These event gathered a rather small group of experts in the fields of perovskite photovoltaics, CO2 and N2 conversion using (photo)electrochemical and photocatalytic technologies, water splitting and biomass valorization creating an ideal cluster of ideas to learn about the biggest problems we are facing in these arenas and the progress we are making on them with new technologies, ideas and even posing challenges that we could not anticipate.
In this conference, I presented some of ASSET Lab’s most recent advances in the fields of solar water splitting, CO2 conversion and, specially, on biomass valorization. Generally speaking, we must highlight the high level of the speakers and the cutting-edge research that was presented there, it was truly inspiring and, in some cases, eye-opening since some of the results in many cases challenged my view of some topics in particular. In this conference I enjoyed the discussions with Prof. Jingshan Luo, Prof. Fatwa Abdi (City University of Hong Kong), Prof. Mojtaba Abdi-Jalebi (UCL, UK), Prof. Wolfgang Tress (ZHAW, Switzerland), Prof. Fei Zhang (Tianjin University, China), Prof. Bingjun Xu (Peking University, China), Prof. Yanwei Lum (NUS, Singapore), Prof. Kun Jiang (Shanghai University, China) or Prof. Alexandr Simonov (Monash University, Australia), amongst many other excellent researchers.

Overall, this conference was very fulfilling not only at a scientific level, but specially because it provided an ideal environment for the exchange of ideas. Kudos to Prof. Jingshan Luo, the organizer and chair of the conference, as well as to his group and Nankai University for the excellent organization and for being such a perfect host! Prof. Guijarro will personally remember this as one of the most enriching conferences he has attended.
